Framed Print of The first Tetra Pak carton - a tetrahedron patented by Ruben Rausing

The first Tetra Pak carton - a tetrahedron patented by Ruben Rausing and invented by Erik Wallenberg - was launched in Sweden in 1951. Made from a single sheet of paper rolled into a tube and sealed to form pyramids, it revolutionised milk packaging. Ruben Rausing (pictured at the time of the Tetras initial launch) was the visionary founder and driving force behind the Tetra Pak concept. As head of Akerlund and Rausing, he set the ambitious goal in the late 1940s to create a low-cost, hygienic, single-use milk package made primarily of paper that could be produced and filled in a continuous process. It was Ruben Rausing who championed the idea from the beginning, assembled the team, protected the development work for over a decade, secured the patents, and turned the invention into a global industrial success (founding Tetra Pak in 1951). Ruben Rausing was the entrepreneur who made it all happen. 1951 Kristoffersson ref BB101-4
