Framed Print of A young mother administers medicine to her daughter with a spoon in her mouth in 1951
A young mother administers medicine to her daughter with a spoon in her mouth in 1951. This tender scene reflects the common practice of the era, where mothers often used spoons to give children liquid medicine, ensuring precise doses in pre-syringe households. the 1950s, spoons were a standard tool for administering medicine to children globally, as oral syringes were not yet widespread, reflecting post-war reliance on simple household items. This nurturing act was a daily ritual in many homes, symbolising maternal care and the gradual improvement of child healthcare after World War II. (Kristoffersson, ref BE42-2).
